France is a country in Western Europe and the third largest European country in terms of area. France is located between the Channel, the Atlantic Ocean and the Bay of Biscay, Belgium and Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland and Italy and Spain, Andorra, the Mediterranean and Monaco. The island of Corsica in the Mediterranean Sea also belongs to France, as well as many overseas territories.

One of the most famous French dishes is the Bouillabaisse, originally a Provençal dish, typical of the city of Marseille. It consists of different types of cooked fish and its origins may even go back to Greek antiquity. Bouillabaisse was originally a poor man's dish: unsaleable fish were cooked in seawater by fishermen on the beach at the end of the working day and then eaten together. The cooking liquor (stock) was poured over pieces of toasted baguette (croûtons) and eaten with rouille (a seasoned Provençal mayonnaise) as a starter.
