The Czech Republic is a country in Central Europe. The country borders Germany to the west and northwest, Poland to the north, Slovakia to the east and Austria to the south. The Czech Republic has been an independent country since January 1, 1993, before that it was the western part of Czechoslovakia.

The most famous Czech drink is the pilsner beer. This type of beer is said to have been invented in Pilsen by Josef Groll. In addition to lager, many other types of beer are also served. Beer is not only drunk but also widely used in the preparation of food. The Czech strong drink Becherovka is also popular. In Moravia, Slivovice (Slivovich) is considered the national drink.
