Croatia is a southern European country in the European Union, bordered by Slovenia and Hungary to the north, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro to the south, and Serbia to the east. To the west is the Adriatic Sea, where Croatian territorial waters border those of Italy. Geographically, the southern part of Croatia is seen as part of the Balkan Peninsula.
