Rotterdam Flag 75 Years

10-02-2024

The Rotterdam flag has been green and white since the Middle Ages. The green refers to the Hof van Wena (a Rotterdam castle from 1306) and the white symbolizes the Rotte River. The colors green and white have been the same since the Middle Ages, but the number of stripes on flag has often changed over the years. In 1783, for example, the Rotterdam flag had eleven green and white stripes.

The current flag was adopted on February 10, 1949, so today we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Rotterdam flag!
