150 Years Eye Hospital
05-07-2024
On July 6, 2024, The Rotterdam Eye Hospital will celebrate its 150th anniversary. On that same day in 1874, The Eye Hospital opened its doors on Nadorststraat in Rotterdam to welcome its first patients with eye problems. 150 years later, the vision of its founders is still deeply rooted in the hospital’s current culture. A spirit of ambitious entrepreneurship, hard work, and top-level performance has made The Rotterdam Eye Hospital renowned today as the leading ophthalmic center in the Netherlands, where patients from all over the country can receive care 24/7. This historic institution also maintains thriving international collaborations with other eye hospitals in the areas of knowledge exchange and scientific research.
In the photo by the flags are ophthalmologist Dion Paridaens, Chair of the Medical Staff, and Berthe de Jong, Chair of the Board of Directors. “We are proud of 150 years of The Rotterdam Eye Hospital and are delighted to share this milestone with the city of Rotterdam and the world beyond.”
