Oman is a sultanate in Western Asia, on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It borders the United Arab Emirates to the northwest, Saudi Arabia to the west, and Yemen to the southwest.

Oman is an absolute monarchy. The sultan enacts all laws. The country does not have a constitution, but it does have a basic law. The sultan is advised by the Majlis of Oman. The majlis consists of two chambers: the lower Advisory Council (Majlis al-Shura) and the higher State Council (Majlis al-Dawla). Oman has no political parties and the candidates are elected in a personal capacity. Women have both active and passive voting rights.
