Lebanese cuisine is widely regarded as the best and most refined in the Arab world. This is because the kitchen has a lot of influences from abroad, such as from Armenians, Persians and Kurds. Well-known Lebanese dishes are tabbouleh, hoummous and falafel and the garlic sauce toum, which are served with the mezze. Certain Lebanese dishes are known among vegetarians and vegans for their use of vegetable protein sources such as chickpeas.
