Israel is a country in Asia, the Middle East and the Levant. Israel borders Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt and the Palestinian Territories it occupies and partly controls. The country has a coast on the Mediterranean Sea and a port on the Red Sea.

The most common languages in Israel are Hebrew and Arabic. Classical Hebrew was a dead language for centuries, but was revived and modernized in the nineteenth century. Russian is the third most spoken language, other languages are only spoken by small groups.
